Move In Checklist

Moving Day Mayhem

Moving Day Mayhem

When moving home it is important to be fully organized ahead of your relocation date. Read more about our top organizational tips which will help to ensure your moving day is that bit smoother and stress-free.

Preparing

  • A house move is an opportunity to get rid of belongings you no longer need. Huntingtower Removals provide a collection service for the British Heart Foundation and could benefit from items you no longer require.
  • People have a tendency to keep outdated paperwork for a very long time. Paper is very heavy so do yourself a favour and get rid of any outdated documents and shred prior to moving.
  • Make sure you have a generous supply of packaging tape, scissors, markers and labels. We can supply you with everything you need. Labelling allows us to make sure your goods end up in the correct rooms.

Packing and labelling

  • Did we mention you need packing material? Do not underestimate the number of boxes you will require. It's also amazing just how much stuff we all seem to horde.
  • Make sure you clearly mark all the boxes of their contents, what room it's for and if its heavy. Remember if you can’t lift the box then it will be very difficult for us especially in properties with stairs.
  • Ensure you use bubble wrap for more fragile items and tissues or old newspaper for packing glassware.

Moving out

  • Try to keep calm and ensure you carry all your important documents with you.
  • Ensure all taps, gas and electrical switches and lights are off and you have advised the utility companies of the meter readings.
  • We will help you double check you have left nothing behind.
  • Lock all doors and windows and collect all keys.

Moving in

  • Show us round the house and let us know where all the furniture and boxes are going.
  • Ensure you have a survival pack and have it readily available. Check our FAQ for details.
  • Take a deep breath the most stressful bit is done.
  • Designate a room for where all the miscellaneous boxes go that you can deal with later.

Are You Organised?

We once had a client who thought they were very organised having all their boxes filled, taped and labeled. All of the meter readings had been taken and they were about to leave their old property to complete the paperwork on their new property. As they prepared to leave they started looking for vital documentation which needed to be presented to their solicitor. They realized it had been mistakenly packed away in one of their many boxes which had already been loaded into our removal vans. We found ourselves with a serious problem and had to unload most of the boxes while the search was underway for the documentation.

Labels? What’s The Big Deal!

Our removal team arrived at a client’s new home and started to unload the items they had packed. One of our team quickly realized none of the boxes had been labeled by room indicating which item went where. The client had to spend the rest of the unload present at the front door determining which box should go to which room. This resulted in time being wasted for our client who could have focused on setting up and arranging possessions to preference.

British Heart Foundation Furniture Uplift Service

A recent client of ours had seen their kids fly the nest and decided to downsize from a four to two-bedroom house. The client had an excessive amount of furniture and other items they just didn’t need or want moving forward. They found themselves in a bit of a pickle and really didn’t know how to get rid of all these extra items.

Through our partnership with the British Heart Foundation, it was our pleasure to help the client get the items to people it would help the most. We are able to help clients make the most of this free uplift service and are always looking to add extra value when it comes to our support.
